I'm managing a setup where we're using Intune to transform regular laptops and mini-PCs into locked-down thin clients as part of the autopilot process through automated device enrollment. Lately, we've been encountering a frustrating issue: some devices just stop reporting to Intune, and their compliance checks begin to fail. While I can manually trigger a sync from the device's settings and it seems to work, Intune fails to update the device status or even acknowledge that a sync has occurred. The only solution I've found is to perform a full reset or fresh start and set the autopilot process in motion again. Have any of you faced similar problems, and is there a workaround that avoids doing a complete reset?

One possibility could be that the device is missing a license. Since these are kiosk devices, make sure they're assigned the correct Microsoft Intune Plan 1 Device license. In general, you’d think licensing should impact all devices, but if it's just a few having issues, it's worth looking into.
We're in a hybrid environment too, and it's not uncommon for clients to end up with faulty Intune registrations. You can try to re-register a device, but that requires some messy steps like deleting registry values and cleaning up scheduled tasks and certificates before using the deviceenroller tool. It's a hassle, but it could get things back in order without a full reset.

Yeah, I believe these devices operate on an honor system for licensing, so it's not enforced strictly. It's odd that only a few are problematic out of a whole fleet. Seems unlikely to be a licensing issue for just those devices.
