What are the best lightweight atomic Linux distributions?

Hey everyone! I'm looking to install Linux on my partner's laptop that's currently running Ubuntu. While it has been fine so far, I'm a bit worried about the potential for updates to break things, which is why I'm considering an atomic distribution that uses Flatpaks and automatic updates. However, I've noticed that options like Bazzite, Bluefin, and Aurora come with a lot of pre-installed applications that aren't necessary and can't be easily removed due to their image-based nature. I'm also concerned that Fedora Silverblue updates too frequently, which may cause issues with extensions. I'm seeking alternatives that are not as cutting-edge as Fedora but also not as bloated as Universal Blue images. I've heard of Aeon, but it's pretty much run by just one guy and feels a bit too leading-edge. VanillaOS seems nearly abandoned and might be too unique to manage effectively. Does anyone have any suggestions for stress-free atomic distributions? Thanks for your help!

You might want to check out Fedora Atomic KDE. It aims for a clean install and should fit your needs pretty well.

Garuda KDE Lite is a fantastic choice! It's super minimal; there's not even a web browser installed, so it runs really fast and stays out of your way.

Is Garuda considered atomic, though? I thought it wasn't.
