I have two PCs located at my parents' houses, and they both seem to slow down no matter what I do. Even after completely wiping them clean every month, they still end up sluggish. I can't tell if it's just because I'm using hard drives for both systems or if I might be missing some essential drivers. I've checked the task manager and resource manager, and it looks like 'System' is heavily utilizing resources. Here are their specs:
- First PC: Ryzen 5, Nvidia 1650, 32GB RAM, Windows 10.
- Second PC: Ryzen 7, Nvidia 3060, 32GB RAM, Windows 11.

It could also be a software issue, but honestly, with the hardware you're using, moving to a Linux-based OS might also give you a bit of a boost. Just throwing it out there!
There’s also the option to clone your current hard drives to SSDs, which should be pretty straightforward. Once you do that, you’ll see a huge improvement in how quickly the computers boot and run applications!
The fact that both PCs are running their operating systems off hard drives is likely the main issue. Hard drives can’t compete with the speed of SSDs, especially with Windows 10 and 11, which really don’t like spinning drives anymore. An upgrade to an SSD would drastically improve their performance!
Totally agree! Having the OS on an SSD would be a game changer. I had the same issue before I switched, and it felt like I got a new machine!
Honestly, why not just go for an SSD? They're way more affordable now than they were a few years back. It's a solid investment for a noticeable speed boost, even if it's just for the OS!
I remember the prices back in 2020; they were ridiculous! But now, it makes so much sense to upgrade. Get that OS on an SSD!
That sounds nice and all, but will you be the one to install it? Or help them with any hiccups? Linux isn’t for everyone, especially if they rely on certain software!
