Why Are My Photos Disappearing on My iPhone?

Hey everyone! I recently got an iPhone 15 Pro Max with 512GB and transferred about 100GB of photos and videos from my PC using the Apple Devices app. They were working fine initially, but a few weeks ago, the folder I created on my photos app (which came from my Mac) vanished along with all the photos I transferred. When I connect my phone to the PC again, it shows the original photos (around 250GB) and an additional 72GB labeled as documents, but I know I don't have that many documents. I came across some info saying that the phone might be hiding the photos because they didn't come from another iPhone. Is there any way to access those hidden photos? Also, I transferred a few hundred more photos recently, and they were visible until today, but now they've disappeared again. Can anyone help me out?

Welcome to the world of iOS! The Apple Devices app isn’t the best for syncing photos. When you transfer photos this way, they end up in a sync folder rather than your camera roll. This folder can change after reconnecting to a PC or if you use iCloud, which can cause your phone to treat those images as documents.

I recommend enabling iCloud on your iPhone and uploading your photos through icloud.com; this will sync them directly to your camera roll. If you want to avoid iCloud, consider using Google Photos or third-party software that transfers photos straight into your camera roll. If you want to try saving the images after transferring, you can check your camera roll for the sync album, select all the photos, and then tap share and choose 'Save Image' to move them into your camera roll. But honestly, using the other methods is much simpler since they directly put them in your camera roll!

Thanks for the helpful info! I’ll try switching to another app. Is there any way to make those previously transferred pictures visible again? They’re still taking up storage on my phone.
