Why aren’t my message notifications working on my iPhone?

I'm using an iPhone 16 Pro with iOS 26.2, and I'm having a big issue with message notifications while connected to Bluetooth in my work truck—it's required due to a hands-free policy. When I receive messages, there's no sound alert, they don't show up on my lock screen, and they seem to be marked as 'opened' automatically, which means I have no idea that I've received new messages. Sometimes, I can go for two hours without knowing I've missed an important text. All other apps notify me as usual, so I'm not sure what's happening here. Is there a fix for this?

Do you happen to have any other Apple devices, like a Mac or iPad, that might be sharing your messages? Sometimes those can cause issues as well. Also, if you've adjusted the system time on your phone for any reason, that could interfere with notifications too. Just something to consider!

It sounds like the 'opened automatically' issue isn't normal. The symptoms you described might be due to a Focus mode setting. Check your settings by going to Settings > Focus > Driving. Look for 'While Driving' and see if it's set to activate with CarPlay or Bluetooth. If so, try switching it to 'Activate Manually' or even delete that Focus mode entirely to see if it helps.
