I've been using ChatGPT to write fanfiction for a while now, and I noticed something frustrating happening. I previously asked ChatGPT not to start or end my fanfiction with certain phrases like 'Here is the first part of your fanfiction' or 'Shall I continue with the next part?'. For some time, it respected those instructions because they were saved in its memory. But today, it slipped up and included those phrases again.
I asked ChatGPT if its saved memories were malfunctioning, and it claimed to remember my preferences, but then it didn't save my preferences when I tried to set them again after erasing the memory. Although I have the 'Reference Saved Memories' option turned on, it told me that OpenAI hasn't enabled memory saving for it yet. Is there a current issue with saved memories? I've heard something about maintenance that might be related.

From my experience, even when your memory is on, it’s not always read actively unless you specifically mention it. So sometimes it feels more like a guideline rather than strict rules. I feel you; it can be frustrating when it doesn't stick to your preferences!
It seems like there might be some server overload issues right now. Because of high demand, ChatGPT might not be able to handle as much context from users, including saved memories. Hopefully, this gets better soon as demand decreases or they ramp up capacity.
It sounds like you’re dealing with a lot of bugs! I think maintenance issues could definitely be playing a role in this, making the memory functionality unreliable at the moment. Hang in there; hopefully, they'll fix it soon!
I totally get that! If the service doesn't improve soon, I might consider canceling my subscription too. But fingers crossed it gets back on track!
