Why aren’t the right USB ports on my HP Envy working?

I'm having some trouble with my HP Envy x360 running on Windows 11. After I unplugged my charger to move around the house, I noticed that the mouse I was using disconnected. I didn't think much of it at first, but later when I tried to shut down my laptop, the mouse wasn't responding even though it was still plugged in. I figured restarting the laptop would help, so I powered it off, plugged the charger back in, and went to bed. However, the next day, the same issue occurred: the laptop wasn't charging, and the mouse still wasn't working. I checked the charger on my phone, and it worked fine. I also tested my headphones using the other side USB port, and they worked without a hitch. It seems like the left ports are functioning well, but the right ones are completely unresponsive. I'm currently updating my system to see if a driver issue might be the culprit, but I'm worried this could be a hardware problem. Any insights would be really helpful!

It sounds like you might have a hardware issue with those right-side USB ports. First, check the Device Manager to see if there's any issue flagged. If it looks okay, try to uninstall and then reinstall the USB controller drivers. You might also want to inspect the ports for any debris or physical damage. If everything seems fine and it still doesn’t work, it might be time to consult a professional for a closer look.

Thanks for the tips! I'll check the Device Manager first and see if there are any issues. If not, I guess I’ll need some professional help!

Since you're updating your drivers, make sure to check for Windows updates as well, just in case there are any new fixes related to USB connectivity. If these steps don't resolve the issue, it's possible the ports are faulty. In that case, getting in touch with HP support could be beneficial as they might offer a repair or replacement under warranty.

Sometimes, the BIOS settings might cause USB ports to act weirdly. If you’re comfortable, try accessing BIOS to see if anything seems off there. But be cautious with any changes. Also, you might want to double-check that your USB devices aren't malfunctioning by testing them on another computer.
