Why can’t ChatGPT hit my word count requests?

I've been trying to use ChatGPT for writing and asked it for something really specific—a 15,000-word piece—but it never seems to deliver. Even with a detailed outline, I just get around 4,000 words or I hear it say it will finish in 15 minutes but nothing shows up. Is this a common issue or am I missing something?

Totally relatable! I had to write a whole book, and it felt exhausting directing ChatGPT the whole way. Instead of asking for a certain number of words later on, try saying things like, 'Now, add another 50% of what I’ve got' or ask for additional paragraphs. It helps to guide it using references instead of just numbers. Good luck!

It's pretty normal for ChatGPT to struggle with longer word counts. It has a token limit, which can make it hard to produce such long outputs in one go. What I recommend is to ask it to break the task into smaller sections instead of aiming directly for the word count each time. This way, you can build it up gradually.

Yeah, I usually get maybe 5 pages too. The word count limitations from token usage are tricky. Sometimes, just changing your request style helps it understand better!

Are you using the actual ChatGPT input box for your prompts? That’s the best way for it to process your requests.
