Why Can’t I Access All the Space on My HDD?

I recently built a PC and am using an old 1TB WD Elements HDD that I had for my PlayStation. It previously held a backup of Windows from my laptop, but now it only shows up as 31.9GB on my PC. I'm not sure how to access the full storage capacity. What should I do?

It sounds like your HDD might be formatted with FAT32, which has a maximum partition size of 32GB. To fix this, back up any important data and reformat the drive using NTFS. This will allow you to access the full 1TB capacity without the size limitation.

It's possible your HDD has multiple partitions, so Windows only recognizes part of it. I suggest creating a Live USB with GParted to check out the drive. It might reveal unallocated space or additional partitions that are causing this issue.

This seems like a solid solution! I'll try that.

Could you share a screenshot of your disk management? That would help diagnose the issue better.
