I've been having a tough time since the recent Windows update (KB5079473). After the update, apps like Firefox and WhatsApp wouldn't open, and even Task Manager stopped responding. Now, whenever I try to access my C: drive, it says 'access denied.' I suspect there might be a malicious file involved, so I ran a full scan with Windows Defender. I asked for advice on a tech support discord server, but they mentioned that malware shouldn't cause this. When I contacted Windows support, it turned out that the command prompt doesn't work since it's also on the C: drive, along with other system software. I'm scared this might be virus-related, but reinstalling Windows would delete my important files on the C: drive. Is there any way to recover my files?

Did you happen to use a Samsung laptop? There's an ongoing issue affecting users with specific models due to that Windows update. You might find this article helpful: https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/microsoft/microsoft-windows-11-users-cant-access-c-drive-on-some-samsung-pcs/
I faced something similar and found a video that solved my problem. You might want to give it a watch: https://youtu.be/ZbWghTnZ_ic?si=igy_e6hQk1uaer99. It worked for me!

Thanks for the heads up! Just checked the article, and it's spot on. I do have that model, and this issue wasn’t mentioned in the community discussions, so I appreciate you pointing it out!
