I've been having an issue where I can't close Microsoft Edge by clicking the 'X' button on the window. Instead, it just stays open until I force quit it using the task manager. This problem is occurring on both our Windows 10 and Windows 11 machines. Has anyone else encountered this issue?

I'm seeing this issue on multiple machines today. It seems like the recent update from May 16 might have something to do with it. Sometimes turning off the startup boost or hardware acceleration helps, but it's not always reliable. Repairing the app hasn’t consistently worked either, which is pretty frustrating.
I had this same problem yesterday on my personal Windows 10 computer. My work machine on Windows 11 seems fine though. It seems to be a bit hit or miss.
Yeah, this might be because Edge is set to run in the background to improve its responsiveness. You can try exiting it fully by going to the menu (the three horizontal lines) and selecting 'Exit'. That should close even the background processes.
I ran into this over the weekend and was relieved to find I wasn't alone! A workaround I found is to select 'Close Microsoft Edge' from the three-dot menu instead of clicking the 'X' button. I noticed they might have fixed the issue today since I can’t recreate it anymore.
