Why can’t I have a voice chat with ChatGPT on Android?

I'm trying ChatGPT for the first time on my Android device, and I was really looking forward to having a verbal conversation, like I've seen in videos. After downloading the ChatGPT app, which has a ton of users, I found out that I can only interact by typing or using the microphone button to record my voice, which then gets converted to text. The responses come back as plain text, and when I asked why it doesn't speak the responses out loud, it got a bit confused. It mentioned something about providing informal chat-like answers but didn't confirm audio responses. So, am I missing something here? Does the app have voice chat capabilities or not?

It sounds like you're looking for an audio feature that might not be fully implemented in the Android app yet. Some users mention that the voice chat experience is available in certain versions or through specific features in the app, so make sure to check for updates. If you see any options that might say 'audio mode' or something similar, give that a try! Also, if you don’t want to sign up for any trial or subscription, just explore what’s free first. It can be a bit confusing at first!

Yeah, I had a similar confusion. I almost skipped the audio mode because I was wary of subscriptions, but I found that some features are indeed free—just check around in the settings!

It’s possible that voice interactions are still rolling out for the app. If you haven’t found a straight audio option yet, keep an eye out for updates from OpenAI. Meanwhile, you could check if the web version on a browser offers any additional features that might not be in the app. Sometimes apps lag a bit behind web versions in terms of functionality.

Thanks, I'll definitely keep an eye on updates. I’ll check out the web version too!
