Why can’t I move files to my flash drive on Windows 11?

I'm having a frustrating issue with moving files from my computer to a flash drive. Whenever I try, it keeps trying to copy the files instead and says that there's not enough space on my laptop. I've attempted to hold the shift key while dragging, and the prompt indicates 'move' before I release it, but it still results in a copy attempt. Does anyone know how to resolve this?

If you're dealing with files around 50GB, it sounds like you're definitely exceeding the FAT32 limit. You might want to check if your flash drive is FAT32 formatted. If that's the case, consider reformatting the drive to NTFS, which supports larger file sizes. Just be careful—this will erase all data on the drive.

Just a heads up; moving files can sometimes lead to unexpected data loss, especially if things go wrong. It’s generally safer to copy your files first, check that the copy was successful, and then delete the originals if you're moving between different disks or partitions.

Also, if you're getting an error about not having enough space, are you trying to transfer a file larger than 4GB to a FAT32 formatted flash drive? That format has a limit on file sizes, which could be the issue for you.
