Why Can’t I Move My 9GB File to a USB Drive?

Hey everyone, I'm running Windows 11 and I'm trying to transfer a 9GB recording to my USB drive, which has about 56GB of free space. However, I'm getting an error message saying the file is too large to transfer. I'm confused because there's obviously enough space on the USB, so I'm wondering if this could be a formatting issue or something else entirely. Any ideas on what might be going on?

Yeah, I've run into that issue before. If it is FAT32, one fix is to reformat the USB to NTFS or exFAT, which don't have as strict file size limits. Just remember that reformatting will erase everything on the drive, so be sure to back up any important files first!

Exactly! If it’s indeed FAT32, you’ll need to change the format if you want to transfer larger files. You can do this through Disk Management on Windows. Just make sure to back up your data before doing it!

It sounds like your USB drive might be formatted as FAT32. This file system has a maximum file size limit of 4GB, so that would explain why you're seeing that error even though you have enough space. You should check the format of your USB drive in the settings.
