I transferred a video from my laptop to an external memory card, but when I try to play it on my TV, I get a message saying "The file is not supported." What can I do to sort this out?

Have you checked your TV's manual? Most modern TVs support MP4 files, but there might be specific formats they require. Some types like .mov and .avi can be problematic. You'll want to ensure your video meets those requirements.

Yeah, I've encountered that too. My TV refuses to play .mov and .avi files, which is super frustrating since many of my clips are in those formats!

It sounds like your TV might not support the video format you're using. A good solution is to use Handbrake, which is a free app, to convert your video to an H.264 format. Simply load your video, choose the 'Fast 1080p30 (Default)' setting under ‘General’ presets, and hit ‘Start Encode’. If you want to test it quickly, you can just encode a short 30-second clip to see if it works before processing the whole video. Oh, and make sure your video file has an .mp4 extension before testing it out!

One option I've set up is using an older laptop connected to my TV's HDMI. I just run VLC on the laptop, and it plays almost anything! It might be an easier solution without the need for conversion.
