I'm having trouble with screen sharing on Google Meet when trying to watch movies with my girlfriend. The video plays fine until I start the Meet call and attempt to share my screen, after which the video just stops and won't play at all. Does anyone know why this happens and if there's a way to fix it?

I've had the same issue! I can't find a solution either. It would be nice if someone could help us out with this. Let me know if you find a fix!
It sounds like the issue might be related to how streaming services block screen sharing as a copyright measure. Many services have protections in place that prevent you from sharing their content during video calls.
Interesting point! I was able to watch Netflix via Google Meet when the host was on a computer. Do you think the device hosting the call plays a role in whether screen sharing works?
