I recently had my Apple ID deleted after my device was compromised, and I received confirmation of that deletion. However, when I try to create a new Apple account with the same email address, I get a message saying that it's still taken. Has anyone experienced this before? What can I do to resolve it?

Dealing with Apple in situations like this can be really frustrating. If you're locked out after deleting your account, it’s often hard to recover or reuse that email. I’ve had bad experiences even losing access to accounts because of simple changes.
It’s a bummer, but you'll need to create your Apple account with a different email. Maybe consider using an iCloud.com address this time? You can still link your main email for other services later.
Unfortunately, once your Apple account is deleted, that email address can’t be used to create a new account for a certain period. Apple keeps a one-way hash of the email for security reasons, and depending on the type of account you had, it might not be available for reuse until their retention policy allows it. So, you'll have to pick a new email for your new account for now.
