Why can’t my new PC handle games even though it meets the requirements?

Hey everyone! I recently got a new PC that I thought would be great for HD video editing and gaming. I know it wouldn't be able to handle the latest games at max settings or super long 4K projects, but I expected it to run games that fit within its specs. For example, I tried to play SOMA last night, which should run fine, but my PC struggled a lot. I had to turn the graphics way down just to get the frame rate to a decent level, and even then, it wasn't great. I'm not super tech-savvy, so I'm wondering what I might be doing wrong or how I can improve the performance. Here are my specs: RYZEN 7 5600G, RADEON VEGA 8 (integrated), 16 GB RAM DDR4, 240 GB SSD, ASUS PRIME A520M-K.

Another thing to check is if your cooling is sufficient. Sometimes thermal throttling can prevent your CPU and GPU from performing at their peak. Make sure your PC case has good airflow and that fans are working correctly. Additionally, you could try disabling some background applications when gaming to free up resources.

I hadn’t thought about cooling! I’ll check the airflow and see what I can do there.

It looks like the integrated Radeon Vega 8 is the main bottleneck for gaming. While your CPU is solid, the Vega graphics are generally geared more towards basic tasks rather than gaming. You might want to consider upgrading to a dedicated graphics card, which can drastically improve your gaming experience. If upgrading isn’t an option for now, tweaking in-game settings and ensuring your drivers are up to date could help a bit. Good luck!

Thanks for the insight! I’ll look into getting a dedicated GPU when I can.
