Hey everyone! I need some help figuring out a strange situation. Recently, I set up a calendar event on my iPhone for a trip and invited my husband by entering his email address. A few days later, he declined the invite, which I thought was a mistake on his part. We went on the trip without any issues. But when I later mentioned his decline, he was completely confused and insisted he hadn't done it. I showed him the evidence on my phone, and there it was - his RSVP of 'declined'.
It got weirder when I tried to message his email through iMessage as he suggested. I ended up getting a reply from his sister instead! She answered my 'hi' with a 'hello', and it turned into me calling her and realizing she was connected to his email somehow.
Now I'm left puzzled! How could she receive messages and calls intended for him? They've never shared any accounts or devices. Is there any possibility she could have access to his information? It's all very odd, and I can't shake off the confusion. Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

It's possible that his sister contacted you pretending to be him without realizing the mix-up, or maybe she's just confused about the situation. You could ask her directly to clarify.
It sounds like they might be sharing an Apple ID, which can cause messages to get mixed up like that. Check if he's signed into the same Apple ID on both devices, as that could explain why she received the iMessages.
Also, look at how you saved their contact info. Are there any duplicates or similar names in your contacts that might have caused this mix-up?
Have your husband send you a quick email to double-check if the email address you have is correct. It could be that there is a typo somewhere, which led to the messages being sent to the wrong person.
You might want to check the settings on your husband’s iPhone. Under Settings > Messages > Send & Receive, you should be able to see which emails and phone numbers are associated with his account. Sometimes, if they’ve used a shared device or SIM in the past, emails can get linked.
No, they're definitely not sharing an Apple ID.
