Why Did My RTX 3090 Stop Being Detected After a Restart?

Hey everyone! I'm experiencing an issue with my Gigabyte RTX 3090 Vision OC. I was just testing an old game when my computer unexpectedly restarted. After that, my monitor wouldn't show any image, so I switched to the integrated graphics on my motherboard and noticed that Windows wasn't detecting my GPU at all. I booted into safe mode and used DDU to clean the GPU drivers, but when I tried to reinstall them, the Nvidia installer couldn't find my graphics card. There was no strange noise or smell during the restart, and my power supply is a Corsair RM1000e, which should be sufficient. My motherboard (MSI Pro Z690-A DDR4) isn't showing any VGA debug LED either. This happened around the time there were driver issues with Nvidia, which made me worry. Could drivers cause a GPU to suddenly fail? I'm currently using the January drivers and Windows 11 version 23H2 with no overclocking. I'm taking my computer to a repair shop today and hope they can fix it. If they manage to revive my GPU, what would be the most stable drivers to use? I've heard about version 566.36 or 566.14. Also, I'm feeling like there might be a BIOS issue since the technicians presented a grim diagnosis too quickly. I plan to reconnect the GPU next week and try flashing the BIOS or using a CH341A USB programmer if needed. Anyone have experience with this? Let me know your thoughts!

Make sure to check if the GPU is shorted before diving deeper into repairs. It might save you time and headaches down the road!

Yeah, I plan to get a multimeter to check that.

First things first, try reseating the GPU! It could just be a loose connection causing it to be undetected. If that doesn't work, you might want to check for any shorts with a multimeter to be safe. Sometimes the fix can be super simple!

Thanks! I’ll definitely try reseating it first.
