Why Did My Windows 11 System Use 42GB in Just 24 Hours Without Updates?

Hey everyone! I recently checked my data usage on Windows 11 and was really surprised to find that the "System and Windows Update" category consumed about 42.85 GB in the last day. What's puzzling is that I didn't see any updates or installations happening in the Windows Update section. Most of my use was just casual browsing and a bit of gaming (CS2). Has anyone experienced this before or knows what might be causing such high data usage?

If storage is a concern for you, definitely try running Disk Cleanup regularly. It can help get rid of unused files and clear up space. Just be cautious about Windows Updates because they can still run in the background unless you manage them properly.

I'll definitely give Disk Cleanup a shot. Thanks for the tip!

A lot of people aren't aware of how Windows Delivery Optimization works. Basically, your PC can download updates not just from Microsoft, but also from other systems on the network. If your setup allows it, you can even share updates with other devices on your local network, which can help reduce overall internet data usage. But if misconfigured, it might end up pulling more than you expect. You might want to check your settings and see what’s going on!

Thanks for explaining! I had no idea about that feature, but it makes sense now.

If you're curious about sharing updates, consider checking out some tutorials or guides on Delivery Optimization.

That does sound like a lot! If you have limited storage, disabling Delivery Optimization might be a good choice. It allows Windows to pull updates from other devices, but if you aren't planning to share updates with others, it might be best to turn that off. Just keep an eye on your data spikes!

I don't really need that feature, so I’ll turn it off like you suggested. Thanks!
