I've been dealing with some frustrating disk write errors on my 3-month-old Samsung EVO 990 Plus SSD. It first happened when I preloaded The Last of Us Part 2 on Steam. The game preloaded fine, but when it was time to unpack it for release, I got a disk write error. After that, no games could update or download on the drive! I restarted, and suddenly the drive didn't show up at all in BIOS or Windows. But after another restart, Windows detected it again, and everything seemed okay. I ran diagnostics with Samsung Magician and a chkdsk command, and the drive checked out healthy.
It happened again with Doom: The Dark Ages—I got pre-release access, and on the official release date, the game crashed, giving me another disk write error. This time, I had to unseat and reseat the M.2 for it to be recognized again. Again, Samsung Magician and chkdsk say the drive is fine. I get that maybe I shouldn't preload games or play early access titles, but I'm curious why this issue keeps happening. Is it possible that the encrypted files or something are causing these errors? Any insights would be much appreciated!

Have you checked how your SSD is cooled? Sometimes, if it's overheating, it might kick in a thermal cutoff for safety. Just something to consider!
It’s just using the standard sticker it came with. It’s situated below the 5080, and the temps stay under 55 degrees. The odd thing is, the first time it happened, I wasn't doing anything intensive; just waiting for TLOU2.
