Why Do My Monitors Go Black When I Start a Game?

I'm having an issue where both of my monitors go black right after I load into a game. The weird part is I can get to the main menu just fine, but once I click on a level, I get a message about incorrect display port settings. It prompts me to adjust the settings to match the connections. After that, the monitors stay powered on, but the screens go black. I've tried swapping cables, updating and rolling back drivers, and fiddling with the display port settings on both monitors. I have two LG monitors—one's an UltraGear at 144Hz and the other's a standard model at 75Hz. This started about a week ago, and I'm at a loss on how to fix it. I'll share a screenshot of the error message in the comments.

Have you tried using DDU to completely uninstall your Nvidia drivers and then reinstalling them? It seems like a driver issue could be what's causing those weird refresh rates and the black screens. If that doesn’t resolve the issue, it could be a sign that your GPU is failing, which is super frustrating.

Yeah, I did use DDU, but unfortunately, it didn’t fix the problem. It seems like there’s about a 50/50 chance that the screens will go black when I load into a level. If I click the level and then exit out quickly before it fully loads, I can re-enter, and it works about 90% of the time. I’m really hoping it’s not a dying GPU—that’d be pricey! I bought it used about three years ago, so I guess it’s a possibility.

I switched to HDMI instead of DisplayPort thinking it might help, but the same black screen thing happens. Now it just shows a ‘no connection’ error instead of the display port issue. The last time I tried to load the game, it launched into repair mode, and now it’s telling me it will search for a solution for the next 30 minutes! What a hassle!
