Why Does Connecting My Computer Slow Down Our Entire Internet?

I've recently noticed that whenever I connect my computer to the WiFi, it drastically slows down the internet for everyone else in the house, making it almost unusable. When I disconnect, the speed goes back up to 43 Mbps, but with my computer connected, it drops to just 0.4 Mbps. This issue started yesterday. Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this or what I can do to fix it? Thanks a lot!

Have you tried rebooting your router? Sometimes, a simple reset can fix connectivity issues. It’s worth a shot!

Yeah, I’ve already rebooted the router.

It could be that your WiFi card isn't compatible with the network's standards, which can cause the router to lower the transmission rate to accommodate your device, slowing down everyone's connection. If you're usually getting 43 Mbps and drop to 0.4 Mbps, it's possible you’re stuck at the lowest speed. Check if your WiFi drivers are up to date, or see if the card is malfunctioning.

So there might be a part in my computer causing issues for everyone? We’ve reset both the router and the drivers.

Make sure your computer isn't actively syncing or uploading anything. Large uploads can really hog your bandwidth, especially if your connection is slow.

Your computer might be downloading updates or large files that consume a lot of bandwidth as soon as it connects. Check for any pending updates or any suspicious activity that might be using up all the bandwidth.
