Why Does My Canon Printer Software Insist on Admin Login for Driver Installation?

I'm having a frustrating time with Canon's printer software. It demands that I'm logged in as an administrator just to install the printer drivers. I've tried running it as an administrator, but that hasn't helped. I'm also struggling to locate the INF file on their website; they seem to only want to push their bloatware. Can anyone explain why this is necessary?

Have you tried downloading the executable and extracting it with 7-Zip? That way, you can get to the INF file directly without dealing with the whole installer package.

Yeah, that method is really effective!

From what I've heard, a lot of printer drivers have to be installed with admin rights ever since the PrintNightmare vulnerability came out. Organizations are increasingly requiring this for security reasons. It’s a bit odd that you need to be logged in as an admin rather than just authenticating during the install, though.
