Why Does My Computer Keep Freezing?

I've been dealing with an annoying issue where my computer unexpectedly freezes. It's been happening for four months now, and I'm getting really frustrated. It all started after I updated my graphics driver and upgraded to Windows 11 in December. At first, my PC would hard freeze every five minutes, and after rebooting it seemed fine for a while but then would freeze again. I tried rolling back the driver, updating to different versions, and even resetting my PC, but the freezing problem returned after a few weeks each time. I did research and discovered that my SSD had some bad data chunks, so I replaced it and did a fresh install of Windows 11. This worked for a bit, but the freezing has come back again. Currently, I'm running an Intel i7-6700K processor with 48 GB of RAM and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 GPU, and I'm using four monitors. Some parts of my system are nearly ten years old, so I suspect that might be an issue too, but I don't know where to start looking for faulty components.

Have you tried checking the Event Viewer for any error logs when your PC freezes? Sometimes, it can give you clues about what's going wrong. If you haven't found anything useful in there, it might just be a sign that the issue is deeper than simple driver problems. Letting it run for a while while monitoring could help catch the freeze moments.

Yeah, I checked the Event Viewer, but it didn't show anything helpful to me. I was hoping to find a clue, but it was all pretty vague.

It sounds like you might have a RAM issue. I suggest testing each RAM stick individually to see if one of them is faulty. RAM is often a common culprit for freezing problems, and they usually come with long warranties, so you could potentially RMA a broken one even if it was bought a while ago.

Thanks for the suggestion! I’ll give that a shot if the freezing happens again. Just curious, what makes you think the RAM is the issue?
