Why does my computer shut down when playing specific games?

I'm having a strange issue where my computer shuts off unexpectedly when I play certain games. This happens either right when I load the game or after about a minute of gameplay. Some games run perfectly fine, but others cause my system to power down completely. It doesn't just freeze; the screen goes black, and then the computer turns off.

I first encountered this problem about two years ago with my 5800X3D CPU while trying to play Forza Horizon 5, but since I didn't play that much, I let it go. A year ago, I upgraded from my old 750W power supply to a new Corsair RM750e, but just a month ago, my computer shut down again when I attempted to play Hitman 3 and Sniper Elite Resistance.

After some research and experimenting, I'm wondering if the VRMs on my motherboard could be too weak for sudden voltage spikes, or if there's an issue with my PSU. I've read some not-so-great reviews about the VRMs on my current motherboard. I don't want to have to replace both the motherboard and the PSU, so I'm reaching out for advice on what I should replace first. I'm considering the AMD ROG STRIX B550-A Gaming as a potential upgrade.

Here are my specs:
- Motherboard: Gigabyte B550 Gaming X V2
- CPU: 5800X3D
- GPU: RX 5700XT
- PSU: Corsair RM750e

Games I can successfully play include Cyberpunk 2077, Baldurs Gate 3, BeamNG.Drive, and Deus Ex Mankind Divided. The games causing issues are Hitman 3, Forza Horizon 5, and Sniper Elite Resistance.

First off, check your CPU and GPU temperatures while gaming. If your CPU is hitting around 85°C (185°F) and your GPU is at about 68°C (155°F), those aren't terrible, but the sudden shutoffs could indicate an issue elsewhere.

Also, how is your GPU connected? Is it directly plugged into the PSU or daisy-chained? Poor connections can cause crashes, especially under load. I'd recommend ensuring everything is securely connected and possibly testing your PSU with a different setup if you can.

What you're experiencing sounds like a classic crash. A sudden shutdown is usually indicative of power issues. If you're sure about the temperatures, I'd lean towards checking your PSU quality. Maybe it's struggling to deliver stable power during those intense gaming sessions.

As for next steps, you could also try removing any overclocks you have set and see if that helps. It might be worth trying that before making any costly upgrades.
