Why Does My Gaming Laptop Experience FPS Drops When Plugged In?

I've been having this frustrating issue with my Lenovo Slim 7 Pro X gaming laptop. Every time I plug it in to charge while playing games from Steam, the FPS drops significantly, but when I unplug it, everything runs smoothly again. I even tried using a different off-brand charger that matches my laptop's power requirements, but the problem persists. My laptop is about three years old, and I'm running Windows 11. Any suggestions on what might be causing this?

It sounds like overheating could be the culprit. Have you checked if your laptop's ventilation is clear when you're gaming? If it's struggling to cool down, it might throttle performance to avoid damage.

I've been keeping an eye on the temps, and they hover around 90°F. I use a cooling pad, but I think there might be another issue. My right cooling fan has been noisy and isn't working properly for the last couple of weeks. It kind of "jolts" but then stops. This could be part of the problem.

You might want to look into your Nvidia drivers. There could be an issue there. I recommend checking a guide I found — it has specific steps you can follow to resolve stuttering and lag. Make sure to do the steps completely for the best results.
