Why Does My GPU Work for Minecraft but Not Other Games?

I'm having a strange issue where my GPU (POWERCOLOR 6600XT) runs perfectly fine with Minecraft, showing frame rates of over 400, but refuses to work with other games like Red Dead Redemption, Ghost of Tsushima, or even Roblox. At first, I thought my GPU was broken because it only spins for a moment on startup and then stops. After a few months, I decided to give Minecraft another shot, and surprisingly, it worked beautifully. However, when I try to play any other games, it's as if the GPU isn't being utilized. Task Manager shows the GPU active during Minecraft but not during other games. I've already tried updating the drivers without success. Any insights or possible solutions would be greatly appreciated!

It sounds like you might be using your integrated graphics instead of your dedicated GPU. Check to see if you have a cable connected to your GPU instead of directly to the motherboard. In some cases, having the cable plugged into the mobo means that the computer is using the integrated graphics, which could explain why it's only working in Minecraft but not in other games. Disabling the iGPU in the BIOS might also help. Give that a shot!

Yeah, definitely check that cable! If you want to use your GPU, make sure it's plugged in. Otherwise, your system might be defaulting to the integrated option.

Exactly! Many people overlook the cable connection, but it's super important. Let us know if that solves the issue.

You mentioned that your display cable is connected to the mobo. If that's the case, it's likely that you’re not actually using your GPU for any games, even Minecraft. Check the GPU load in Task Manager while you're playing. Just because the fans are spinning doesn't mean the GPU is being utilized for rendering. Switching the connection to your dedicated GPU could make a big difference!

Good point! If it's connected to the motherboard, it could be bypassing the GPU entirely. Switching it up should help!

Definitely agree with that! Seeing those fans spin can be misleading. Check the load to really see if it's active.
