Why does my laptop beep on startup?

I recently got a Framework 13 laptop with an AMD Ryzen 5 7640U and 32GB of RAM, running Ubuntu 24.04.03 LTS. I've noticed that when I power it on for the first time each day, it beeps, but everything seems to work just fine afterward. I power off the laptop through the terminal and then turn it back on, and there are no beeps at that point. I've checked the CPU and RAM, and they're all functioning perfectly without overheating. I've even tried restarting and reseating the RAM, but the beeping persists. Should I be concerned about these beeps, or is it just a quirk of Framework laptops that might fix itself?

If it’s just one beep, that generally indicates your laptop is completing a successful POST, which is a good thing! You might only hear it during a cold boot, which is when you power it on completely from an off state. A warm boot, like what you do when you restart from the terminal, skips the POST beep because the system is already running. So, as long as it works fine afterward, there’s likely no cause for concern.

But I actually hear two beeps and four sets of them—not just one. Is that a different issue?

Two beeps can indicate something specific depending on your laptop's manufacturer, but given that it only happens on cold boots and everything else operates normally, it might still just be an indicator of a successful check. Just make sure to keep an eye on it, especially if anything else changes in performance or behavior.
