I have an Asus laptop equipped with an NVIDIA MX330 GPU, Intel i5-1135G7 CPU, and 24GB of RAM, all running on Windows 11. Recently, it started randomly shutting down and rebooting shortly after I turn it on. I took it to a repair shop, and they claimed the GPU was failing and overheating the system, suggesting I use the integrated Intel Iris Xe graphics instead. This fix worked for a while, but now the random shutdowns have returned—though they're less predictable now. Sometimes, it can handle a whole video editing session smoothly, yet it might shut off while I'm just watching YouTube or even idle. I've tried running a system file check and resetting the graphics card, but nothing seems to work. Any thoughts on what could be causing this?

Random shutdowns can sometimes signal overheating or power supply issues. If you notice the laptop getting unusually hot, it might be worth cleaning the internals or checking if the power supply is delivering stable voltage. Also, you mentioned using integrated graphics; make sure your cooling system is functioning properly while using the CPU instead.
It might be worth checking if any recent updates to Windows or your drivers could be the cause of these random shut downs. Sometimes, new updates can introduce bugs that disrupt performance. Also, have you looked into the BIOS settings? Maybe there’s something there that could help stabilize your system.
Thanks for the suggestion! I haven't messed with the BIOS yet, but I might try that next.
It sounds like a frustrating issue! Have you checked the Event Viewer for error messages when your laptop shuts down? It can give you clues about what's going wrong. For instance, I found that 'Event 41: The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first' usually means there's a major problem. It might just echo what you've already suspected, but at least it's a start!
Yeah, I checked mine and got the same message. I hope it’s not a sign of a bigger issue!
I've taken a look and it doesn't seem to be overheating, but I’ll keep an eye on it. Thanks!
