After recently factory resetting my laptop to fix some lag issues, I've noticed that it uses about 7GB of RAM as soon as I start it up. I used RamMap to clear most of that usage, but it goes back to 7GB upon restarting. Can anyone suggest what might be causing this high RAM usage right after booting?

It sounds like Windows is caching programs in RAM. If you have 8GB total, using 7GB right after booting is a bit high. Windows does this to speed up app launches, but if you clear it with tools like RamMap, it just fills back up. You might want to check your startup programs in Task Manager too; there could be unnecessary apps running in the background right from the start.
Totally agree with the others, checking your Task Manager is a simple first step. And yeah, 8GB isn't much nowadays, so consider upgrading if you frequently need more performance.
Have you thought about doing a clean installation of Windows? That can sometimes help if there's a problem with your current setup. Just make sure to back up your important files first!
If you're running 7GB out of 8GB, that is quite a lot. Windows is designed to use RAM efficiently, so caching is normal. But to troubleshoot, you could try using a tool like Autoruns to manage some of those startup processes.
