Why Does My New Power Supply Keep Shutting Down My PC?

I've run into a frustrating issue with my gaming PC. After two years of using a 600w power supply, it started giving off a burnt plastic smell, so I decided to upgrade to a 650w power supply, thinking my old one was overloaded. But now, even with the new PSU, my computer turns off just a few minutes after I boot it up. Does anyone have an idea of what might be going wrong?

Typically, a PSU should come with a warranty, so it might be a good idea to check that out. When upgrading, it's important to use the cables that come with the new PSU to avoid any complications. Have you checked your hardware requirements to ensure you're getting the right wattage? It seems like you're on the safe side with a 650w PSU for your setup.

I ran an online power supply calculator, and it suggested I needed 450-500w for my Intel 11400F, MSI 4060 GPU, 16GB RAM, and two SSDs. I thought it was wise to grab a 600w PSU instead for peace of mind, but now I’m wondering if I overdid it. Could that be the problem?

It's not too much power; in fact, having some extra wattage is usually a good thing for ensuring stability. The issue could be with the PSU itself, especially if it’s a brand that isn’t well-rated.

What brand of power supply did you get? Also, did you make sure to use only the new cables that came with it? Sometimes, mixing old cables with a new PSU can cause issues due to compatibility problems.
