Why Does My PC Keep Shutting Off While Gaming?

Hey everyone! I'm looking for some help with a frustrating issue I'm facing. Yesterday, while I was in the middle of playing Dying Light 2, my PC unexpectedly turned off after about two hours. There were no signs on the screen that anything was wrong, but the RGB lights on my mouse and headphones were still on. Interestingly, my keyboard, which usually lights up when I turn on the PSU, was off.

I thought it might be a one-time thing, so I tried to turn it back on, but it wouldn't boot until I turned off the PSU and turned it back on. I launched the game again, but it shut down again! Even when I wasn't playing, my PC still turned off after some time. However, I ran State of Decay 2 with MSI Afterburner and it didn't shut off.

Today, I tested my CPU with Cinebench for thermal throttling:

- The CPU reached 96°C after 10 minutes without issues.
- I attempted two GPU tests, and both times, the PC turned off instantly.

Here's my hardware setup:
- Case: Acteck Kioto RGB
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 5600 GT
- Motherboard: Gigabyte A520M K V2
- RAM: 32 GB Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 3200 MHz
- SSD: Kingston NV3 1TB
- GPU: AMD RX 6600 8 GB
- PSU: Acteck FT600 600W

My primary suspects are the PSU and GPU, but both were purchased new in April this year. I mainly use the system for gaming without any prior issues until now. What do you think went wrong and how can I resolve this? Thanks in advance for your help!

Your CPU hitting 96°C is definitely on the hot side. Check your Event Viewer for any unexpected shutdowns around the time it crashed. Look for something called "critical thermal event"—it might give you more insights.

They mentioned that running the Cinebench didn't cause a shutdown, so it could be that modern CPUs can handle high temps better than we think. I've seen my CPU hit 100°C during intensive tasks and still function fine.

No mentions of thermal issues in the Event Viewer, but I do have some kernel-power event 41s. It says "System rebooted without a clean shutdown first," which could mean power interruptions.

If your GPU shuts off instantly during tests and it's still under warranty, definitely consider getting a replacement. Double-check your temperatures, as bad RAM or VRMs might be involved too.

My hotspot temp in Dying Light 2 got up to 95°C before, but I adjusted some settings to keep it around 80-86°C. Right now, while idle with a few tabs open, it's about 53-56°C. Just a heads up though, my store didn't have a warranty either. That's tough.

Yikes, that warranty issue is a bummer! Make sure to keep an eye on your temps and consider other testing options if you can't get a warranty replacement.
