I've built a spare computer for backup and fun, but I'm experiencing some frustrating performance issues. Whenever I launch any non-system app, like a game, there's a noticeable slowdown every few seconds that makes it nearly unusable. For instance, in World of Tanks, I get an average of 150 fps, but every 5-7 seconds, there's a 10-second lag where the fps drops to single digits. What could be causing this? Here are my specs:
- Processor: FX-8120
- RAM: 16GB (2x8GB DDR3 1600MHz)
- GPU: Nvidia GeForce GT 1030
- PSU: Deepcool PF350 350W
- OS: Windows 10 64-Bit
Any insights would be really helpful! 🙏

It sounds like it could be overheating and throttling. I recommend using monitoring software to check your CPU and GPU temperatures while under load. That might reveal if your hardware is getting too hot and slowing down to cool off.
Have you checked if there’s a spike in disk activity during those performance drops? Sometimes, your system might be swapping to virtual RAM if it's running low, which can slow things down. Just a thought!
I double-checked, and there's no disk activity during those lags. VRAM usage is around 75%, but in the task manager, it shows only 4% GPU usage while the Xbox Game Bar shows it at 100%. So confusing!
Thanks for the tip! What software do you suggest for monitoring temperatures?
