Why doesn’t Windows have a built-in feature to reset to a previous state on shutdown?

I'm really curious why Windows doesn't include a straightforward way for users to revert their system back to an initial configuration upon shutdown. Sure, using a virtual machine is one option, and network booting could work too, but it feels like Microsoft could really simplify this. They've already developed the restore points feature and had Windows Steady State. This kind of functionality seems like it could be extremely beneficial for many users and might even be a game-changer in various environments.

I used to use Faronics Deep Freeze, which is still a popular tool for this. It locks down a system so you can revert to a previous state easily. You could look into that if you're interested!

Yeah, it’s still going strong! We actually still use it in our setups.

Actually, there is a feature, but it’s only available for Enterprise users. Microsoft does have the Unified Write Filter, which allows certain configurations to revert back to a set state. You can check it out in their documentation.
