Why has my ethernet speed dropped after upgrading my motherboard?

Hey everyone! I recently upgraded my motherboard, and since then, my ethernet speed has taken a nosedive. Before the switch, I was getting around 400 Mbps down and 40 Mbps up on Google's speed test, but now I'm struggling to reach 100 Mbps down, sometimes even lower. Nothing else in my setup has changed — I'm using the same ISP, router, cable, and port. The only thing that's different is the motherboard. I've already installed the latest LAN drivers from the manufacturer and turned off any power-saving features in Device Manager. Is it possible that the onboard ethernet on this new motherboard is just worse? Or am I missing something? I'd appreciate any help or suggestions!

I've noticed something strange — Windows is showing my ethernet connection capped at 100 Mbps, even though my ISP is providing 400 Mbps down. It seems like the connection might be limited. Could the new motherboard only support 100 Mbps ethernet? What are your thoughts?

Check in Device Manager under Network adapters, find your LAN card, then go to Advanced settings. Make sure the Speed and Duplex setting is set to the highest available. If it’s only showing 100 Mbps, that’s your limiting factor!

What’s the model of your motherboard? Not having gigabit support nowadays seems odd, but it could be faulty.

You might think you've got the latest LAN driver, but when you switch motherboards, you usually need a new driver that matches it. I’d recommend downloading the newest driver specifically for your motherboard. Uninstall the current drivers, reboot your system, and then install the fresh drivers. That might help get your speeds back up!

I hear you on that! My motherboard is up to date too, but I'm just hoping Windows isn’t throttling my connection since I switched boards. It's frustrating!
