Why is ChatGPT Avoiding Discussions on History and Religion?

I've noticed that ChatGPT seems to avoid deep discussions on historical and religious topics, which is frustrating. For instance, I was trying to learn about Dionysus and related rituals, but it kept refusing to discuss specific details, saying it goes against its guidelines. I attempted to redirect the conversation by arguing that ancient events can't harm us today, but it just didn't want to engage further. I even pointed out how this seems to reflect a bias against historical discussions, but it dug its heels in even more. Is it even possible to conduct serious historical research with this AI when it reacts this way? Maybe I'm overreacting, but it feels concerning to me.

I've had mixed experiences too. Sometimes, if it starts avoiding a topic, opening a new window or prompting it differently can lead to a better response. Also, keep in mind that while it's great for information, relying on it for serious research might not be the best bet, just like with Wikipedia.

Honestly, I had no problems discussing various aspects of Catholic theology and medieval history. It might depend on how the prompt is framed—maybe try rewording your questions or even starting a new chat. Sometimes changing the approach really makes a difference!

It's wild how different people's experiences with the AI can be! I did manage to explore history and pagan rituals recently in a creative context, so perhaps sticking to fiction-based questions might yield better results.

It sounds like you might have stumbled into a tricky topic! When asking about rituals, especially those involving sex, AI can get skittish. It's probably just sticking to the guidelines to avoid any sensitive subjects. Have you tried asking in a more general way without focusing on those aspects? It might help get a better response.
