Why is ChatGPT So Useless After Canceling My Subscription?

I've been using ChatGPT for a while in the free version, and last month I decided to try the Plus version because I had an important research project. Now that my month with Plus is up, I chose not to renew since the work is finished. However, I was shocked to find that upon returning to the free version, ChatGPT has become completely useless. It doesn't answer my questions coherently, often responding with irrelevant information. Sometimes it looks like it's about to work, but then it suggests writing a story instead. It seems like it's just pulling random bits from memory. Right now, I can't use it at all! I'm left feeling like I might have to subscribe to Plus again or even consider deleting my account and starting fresh. I really don't think it should be like this, especially since I might return to the paid version in a couple of months. Has anyone else experienced this?

Check your settings! Even on the free version, you might still have some memory features active that could confuse the model. Go to the adjustments and see if the memory settings are turned on. If they are, try turning them off and see if it helps. But keep in mind, with the free version, your access to the more advanced models is greatly reduced, so some limitations are expected.

Wow, I was just considering getting Plus, but if this is what happens afterward, I think I’ll hold off. Thanks for the heads up!

Honestly, it's pretty frustrating that they seem to push you back to the paid subscription like that. I think the Plus version definitely changes your experience, and when you switch back to free, it can feel really limited. Maybe they're banking on that to get more people to subscribe again!

I faced the same issue! Now I just use ChatGPT in a browser without logging in, and believe it or not, it works better than my registered version. The downside is you can't save chats, but the responses are more accurate. It truly feels like they want us to pay to avoid these issues!
