Why is ChatGPT Using So Much CPU?

Hey everyone! I've noticed something strange when using ChatGPT. Initially, CPU usage is fine, but as soon as I hit the send button, the CPU usage spikes, and the site becomes slow or even unresponsive. Sometimes it crashes, and other times the text responses appear slowly along with high CPU consumption. After the responses load, the CPU usage settles down. If I close the tab right after sending a message, the CPU usage drops back to normal. Is anyone else experiencing this? What could be causing it? Thanks!

You're definitely not alone! The heavy lifting for ChatGPT is mostly done on the server side, but your browser does some processing too. This can happen when it has to render big or complex responses, especially with formatting. Streaming text as it loads can also put a strain on your CPU since your browser has to keep up with the updates. Closing the tab helps because it stops that extra strain. So, while ChatGPT isn't running on your computer, your browser is definitely working hard!

That makes sense! It's good to know I'm not the only one facing this. It gets especially bad at night when more people are online. I thought my device was acting up! Thanks!
