Why is my $1400 HP gaming laptop running games so slowly?

I recently bought a high-end HP gaming laptop with an Intel Core Ultra 7 155H and an RTX 4050 with 6GB of VRAM, but I'm really frustrated because games are running at a terrible 3-5 frames per second! It feels like I'm hitting a wall despite having great specs. I've included a video showcasing the lag during gameplay in Slime Rancher 2 while checking the task manager, and I didn't see any obvious issues. What could be causing this lag? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

First things first, make sure your laptop is plugged in. Sometimes, if it's running on battery, the power-saving features can seriously throttle your performance even with top-notch specs. You'd be surprised how much it helps!

It is plugged in! But thanks for the suggestion!

Exactly! Using battery power can really ruin gaming performance. Always keep it plugged in if you're gaming.

If you're using an external monitor, try disconnecting it and see if there's any difference in performance. Sometimes, laptops can struggle when trying to output to both internal and external displays. If your setup is routed through USB-C or a similar connection, it might be defaulting to the wrong GPU.

Good point! You might not even realize your laptop is handling graphics incorrectly with an external monitor.

I’m not using an external monitor at all, so luckily that's not an issue for me.
