Why is my 1TB drive suddenly showing as 512MB?

I've been using a 2TB storage drive for some time now. Recently, while playing a game, it suddenly crashed due to a memory error. When I checked the drive, I noticed it was full, so I started deleting unnecessary files. However, the available storage didn't change, and I've since discovered that the drive is now recognized as a 512MB storage device. I'm really confused and could use some help!

It sounds like you've got a case of mistaken capacity. The part number indicates it's a 512GB drive. Maybe you were thinking it was a 1TB drive, but it was never that size. If you bought it as a 1TB drive, you might have been misled or scammed. Double-check the specs too!

But OP mentioned they've used it for a while. What if they have another 2TB drive that failed? That could explain the confusion.

I think it’s always been a 512GB drive, so you may have just pulled up the wrong drive details. A simple mix-up could cause this issue!

If you’re seeing only 478GB out of the 512GB available, that’s pretty normal since some space is reserved for system files. Just ensure you keep the drive healthy and check for any errors.
