I bought a 256GB USB drive to free up space on my phone, which has around 200GB of data (80GB of pictures and 124GB of videos). However, I noticed that after transferring about 150GB of files, the USB's properties are showing it as almost full—233GB out of 234GB. This is confusing because I should still have space left for my entire gallery. Is there something wrong with the USB, or am I missing something?

It sounds like you might have bought a fake USB drive. These cheaper models can display extra fake storage that doesn't actually exist. Check the brand—if it's not reputable, that could be the issue. Formatting the drive might help reveal its true capacity, but if it's a scam, returning it could be your best option.
Totally agree! I've had a similar issue before with a phony drive. Always best to buy from trusted brands.
The difference in reported capacity could be due to how storage is calculated—manufacturers often use decimal GB while systems use binary GiB, which can make it seem like you're losing space. Also, formatting the drive through your phone might help. Make sure there aren't hidden files or partitions taking up space too!
Formatting is a great idea! Just make sure to back up anything important first.
Good point! Not to mention, the file system can really eat up space with how it organizes files. Might be worth checking if there are system files on there.
Most likely, your drive is just a lower capacity one dressed up as 256GB. The technology exists to manipulate the firmware of these drives to report inflated storage. If it’s a cheap price, it’s usually a red flag. Definitely check for any additional partitions or files on the drive.
Exactly! Legit 256GB drives should cost more, so if it’s unusually cheap, that’s a warning sign.
I had a similar experience and learned the hard way. It's so frustrating! Just be cautious about the brands you trust.
Yeah, I've heard that some drives are labeled with fake storage numbers. Formatting might help, but it sounds like you should definitely look into returning it if it's not performing as it should.
