Why is my 4070ti Super underperforming in games despite good benchmark results?

I'm using an i5-12400F paired with a 4070ti Super, with 16GB of VRAM, 32GB of Dual Channel DDR4 RAM, and a 2TB SSD. I have a 750W PSU, and I'm running games at 1080p resolution on a 144Hz monitor. My benchmarks in tools like Furmark show an average of 269fps, but when I actually play games, I'm not seeing those results. For instance, Resident Evil 4 remake maxes out at 75-85fps regardless of my settings, even with ray tracing on or off. I'm also encountering stuttering and inconsistent framerates. I've checked the control panel and power management settings, ensured the GPU is at default, and reseated the GPU. My CPU and GPU never reach 100% utilization in the games I've tested, and I'm having lag issues when booting, like RE3 remake crashing on the options menu. I'm really stumped and could use some advice!

At 1080p, your CPU becomes a significant factor for performance. If you increase to a 1440p 144Hz monitor, you might see improved performance because the load will shift more to the GPU. Consider that option; it could work well with your current setup as a stopgap before any upgrades.

I'm actually in the market for a 1440p right now, that's good to know. Would you recommend a 1440p before a cpu upgrade?

You're definitely facing a CPU bottleneck here. Just because your CPU isn't maxing out at 100% doesn't mean it's handling everything well—many games don't fully utilize every core. With a powerful GPU like yours, your current CPU just can't keep up at 1080p, which is why you're experiencing stuttering. Have you thought about the rest of your specs? Sometimes slow RAM can contribute to these problems.

Gotcha, sounds like a cpu upgrade is in order!

It sounds like you're hitting a CPU bottleneck. The i5-12400F might struggle to keep up with the 4070ti Super at 1080p since it can't fully utilize the GPU's capabilities. That's likely why you're seeing lower frame rates in certain games, even though your benchmarks look great. You might need to consider upgrading your CPU.

Good to know, guess it's upgrade time!
