Why is my 7800X3D running Fortnite so poorly?

Hey everyone! I recently built a new PC featuring a 7800X3D CPU and a 7800XT GPU. I've been testing it out on Fortnite's performance mode, but I'm only getting an uneven 240 FPS. I've seen others with the same setup hitting around 500 FPS. I did some CPU benchmarks since I got the CPU used, and they came out fine. I'm wondering if anyone has tips on what might be causing this lower performance?

What are your CPU and GPU usage while playing? Also, keep an eye on your CPU/GPU temperatures and frequencies. Make sure you’ve installed the latest BIOS, chipset drivers, and GPU drivers, too. Don't forget to enable EXPO for your RAM in the BIOS. Consider using DDU to wipe your display drivers and reinstall the latest ones from AMD to see if that helps!

Keep in mind that Fortnite updates can really affect performance. Are you using the same settings and resolution as those benchmarks? Ensure that your shaders are fully compiled. Also, did you do a clean Windows install after this hardware change or just reinstall over your old setup?

Have you checked if SMT is enabled in your BIOS? I accidentally disabled it once, and it made a difference. It's probably not the main issue, but it's worth looking into.

Thanks for the tip! I’ll check that out.

I have the same build, and I was able to get around 100-140 FPS in ultra settings at 1080p. Keep an eye on the age of benchmarks; Fortnite's performance can change dramatically with each season, so older benchmarks might not reflect current performance. Also, it's worth checking if you're using the latest settings.

I noticed that too—DX12 seems to run better than the performance setting. It’s frustrating because my older setup ran Fortnite better. There’s definitely something off with this build.
