Why is my ASUS RTX 3060 running at such high idle temperatures?

I've had my ASUS RTX 3060 (single fan model) for about 3 years now, and recently I've noticed that it's idling at 92+ degrees Celsius. The only fix I found was to undervolt the GPU using Afterburner, which seems to work only half the time. Most games, like Assetto Corsa, run smoothly at over 100 fps initially but then drop dramatically to around 28 fps. I repasted the GPU and cleaned the heatsink and fan, which had accumulated some dust. My case is mostly clean with one intake fan and one exhaust fan. I'm not sure what else to do, so I'd appreciate any advice on this issue!

You've done quite a bit already! Make sure to check the fan RPM using GPU-Z or a similar tool; sometimes the fan might need replacement. It's also worth checking that the heatsink is mounted properly, as a bad mount can lead to overheating despite repasting. Occasionally, it might be a BIOS issue, so consider using DDU to uninstall and then reinstall your drivers. Unfortunately, it sounds like you might just be having some bad luck with the card!

Out of curiosity, what PC case are you using? Maybe the case airflow could be impacted. Just so you know, I’ve been running my setup with the glass panel off for better airflow, which might help in your situation too.

I'm using the MSI MAG Forge 100R. Since noticing the issue, I've been keeping the glass panel off to try to improve airflow.
