Why is My Computer Taking So Long to Start Up?

I'm dealing with a pretty frustrating issue where my computer takes way too long to boot up—around 10 to 20 minutes. This has been a long-standing problem, but it seems to have worsened recently. I don't think it's a virus, as I've taken care of that in the past. I've already checked that my RAM isn't the issue, and I'm running a GTX 1650 graphics card. I'm not sure about the other specs, but I'm using Windows 10. I'm looking for general advice on what might be causing this slowdown and what steps I can take to diagnose the issue—hardware or software solutions included. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You could try using Autoruns to disable some startup programs that might be bogging down your boot time. It's pretty straightforward; there are tutorials on YouTube if you need help with it! Just search for 'Autoruns guide' and you'll find plenty of resources.

It sounds like your hardware might not be keeping up with Windows 10 if it's been slow from the start. When I upgraded an old system to Win 10, it really struggled too. It could also be that your HDD is heavily fragmented, or you might just benefit from a completely new setup, honestly.

Are you using a hard disk drive (HDD)? Switching to a solid-state drive (SSD) could make a big difference in startup time if you're not already using one.

Yes, I have a 1TB HDD.

Wow, 20 minutes is insane! I used to have a really old laptop with Windows XP that took that long too, but it was pretty much dead. You might want to check your specs again; it could be that your components are aging or you just have a ton of unnecessary files slowing things down.

Also, make sure you know if you're doing a cold boot or using hibernate/fast boot. That can really affect how long it takes to start up. If you're doing a full cold boot every time, maybe consider tweaking your settings to optimize that.
