Why is my CPU fan getting louder lately?

I've built my PC about 10-11 years ago, featuring a 1070ti and an i5-8600k. Though it's getting old, I'm not planning to upgrade anytime soon due to high prices for PC gaming components. Recently, I've noticed that the CPU cooler fan (it's a Noctua, but I'm not sure which model) has become quite loud, especially during intense gaming sessions. I've cleaned the fan and the PC, but it didn't help much. Is it normal for a fan of this age to get louder? Should I consider replacing it, and how difficult is that process?

There are a couple of things to consider:

1. Your fan may indeed be failing, which happens over time, and replacing it is pretty easy. Just make sure to measure the size first and find a similar Noctua fan.
2. The thermal paste between your cooler and CPU might have dried out, affecting its performance. It's worth checking!

It sounds like you might just need a new fan. Ten years is a pretty good lifespan for these things! Uploading a picture of your fan could help others identify it quickly for you. But honestly, swapping it out is usually straightforward.

Don't forget about the thermal paste! If it's old, it won’t transfer heat properly. Before you remove the CPU cooler, try running the PC for a moment and then shut it off to make separating the heatsink easier. Just be careful with the thermal pads on your GPU when you're doing this. There are plenty of videos available on how to handle it.
