Why is my CPU overheating unexpectedly?

A few months ago, I noticed my CPU temperatures spiking to around 95 degrees when under load, and even while idle, it was sitting around 70 to 80 degrees. I thought replacing the thermal paste would help since I hadn't changed it in a while, but even after that, the temperatures didn't improve. This issue just started recently; my CPU isn't throttling, but it still runs very hot. I even did a fresh install of Windows to rule out any software issues. I'm looking for any advice or insights on what might be causing this. Thanks!

I'd recommend checking if your CPU fan and case fans are working properly. Sometimes, even if everything looks good, clogged vents can cause heat to build up fast!

That's true! If airflow is restricted, it can lead to temperatures climbing, even with a good cooler.

I did clean out the case and fans when I repasted it, but I'll double-check to ensure nothing’s obstructing airflow.

It sounds like there’s definitely something going on. CPUs normally don’t just overheat for no reason. If you have an AIO cooler, it could be failing or clogged. With air coolers, dust accumulation over time can block airflow, so it’s worth checking the heatsink too. Make sure it’s clean!

Exactly! There's usually a root cause. If your thermal paste is dried up or applied poorly, that can also contribute to overheating.

I agree with you! If the cooling's not working right, then it doesn't matter how good the CPU is.
