Hey everyone! I built my PC a few weeks back and it was working great until today. For some reason, my CPU temperatures are much higher than normal. Usually, when playing Oblivion Remastered, my CPU runs around 60 degrees and sometimes dips into the low 70s. But now, I'm hitting 80 just in the menu and it goes up to 85 while playing, causing some bottlenecking. I'm at a loss for what's causing this issue. Here are my specs: Ryzen 7 7800x3D, 5070 ti, ROG STRIX 5850-A GAMING WIFI, 32GB of DDR5 6000, and a Samsung SSD 990 Pro 2TB. Any thoughts or suggestions would really help!

Take a look at your background tasks. You might have something running that you don’t notice. And about your thermal paste, you said you used Arctic MX-4? That’s usually solid, but if it’s spread too thin or degraded, it might start affecting temps after several months. Just something to think about!
First thing, check if your CPU or GPU is under heavy load. You might want to download a monitoring app like ZALPR on both your PC and phone to track temps and loads. It could be a virus causing unwanted background tasks, so definitely run a full scan too!
I ran a scan with Malwarebytes but it didn't find anything. Should I still use ZALPR?
Make sure nothing is obstructing your PC’s airflow. Sometimes, if it's pushed up against a wall or covered, that can raise temps. Also, consider checking or reapplying the thermal paste. If you have old paste, clean it off and apply a fresh dot or an X-pattern of new thermal paste before remounting the cooler. It can make a notable difference!
Have you considered the room temperature? Sometimes, the ambient temperature can have a big impact. It’s been getting warmer here in France and I noticed my temps rise too. Check how hot your room is!
Yeah, it’s definitely warmer in here than usual, but I didn’t think it would affect my CPU that much.
I applied a pea-sized dot of MX-4 in the middle.
